The German Bundesrat recently put out a tender for the broadcast of all Plenarsitzungen (plenary sessions).
In addition to handling the broadcast, the contract requires the provider be able to meet the requirements of their Video on Demand service, which is currently home to several thousand video clips. POST Telecom and Freecaster were selected to meet the needs of this tender.
POST Telecom, a subsidiary of POST Luxembourg, is a provider of high-end, superfast broadband connectivity solutions. They provide their clients with the highest network quality and security by ensuring redundancy for their many broadband services. POST Telecom takes advantage of POST Luxembourg's POST Telecom network, which offers connections between major European cities as well as five major data centers, which are managed by EBRC.
In addition to this, POST Telecom’s experience with media, connectivity and other large-scale projects at government institutions including the EU Commission and EU Council were vital to this project.
Freecaster is an award-winning video production, live streaming and video platform provider. Since 2004, Freecaster has provided services, including podcasts, TV, web streaming and radio to a range of major global clients including Givenchy Paris, Tag Heuer, Ogilvy, FIM Motocross World Championship and Tomorrowland concerts. This made them an ideal candidate for the project.
In order to meet the high expectations of the Bundesrat tender and ensure that the streaming service was robust and efficient, it was necessary to combine the strengths and expertise of both POST Telecom and Freecaster. This allows for the delivery of a comprehensive and evolutionary solution that caters for new communication strategies influenced by growth of social media, demanding security requirements, live delivery, editorial control, and accessibility (including audio-descriptions).
This solution also caters for the incredible diversity of devices that will access the content.
Peter Wilke, who is responsible for communications at the German Bundesrat, highlighted how POST Telecom and Freecaster best understood the requirements of the tender and what needed to be accomplished. The solution also allowed for easy integration into social media; a critical factor that impressed the Bundesrat.
The HE Ambassador of GD Luxembourg, Jean Graff, stated how proud and happy he was to see the Luxembourg company receive the opportunity to serve the highly important German government institution. He continued emphasizing how the German market is the most dynamic and largest in Europe, and is sure there are many more opportunities for POST Luxembourg’s solutions.
